April 28 (Friday Review)

Image
Thursday, we learned about Take Your Daughter or Son to Work Day and thought about jobs and working. Wednesday, we celebrated Audubon Day, named after John James Audubon, an artist and ornithologist.  Tuesday, we celebrated Ella Fitzgerald's birthday and listened to The First Lady of Song sing "Dream a Little Dream" with Louis Armstrong. Monday, we learned that scientists believe that it might be raining diamonds on Saturn and Jupiter because of the carbon and methane in their atmospheres. Here is the Friday Review Worksheet! Things to try with Alexa: "Alexa, Flip a Coin"  --- did you pick heads or tails? "Alexa, roll the dice"  (x3 times and see the biggest number you can make with her rolls)

Alexa's topic today is National Audubon Day. John James Audubon drew and painted North American Birds in their natural habitat. A habitat is where something lives. People who study birds are ornithologists. He lived from 1785  to 1851. Alexa mentions that there are 10,000 species of birds.  Species means kinds or types of animals. Audubon Worksheet

Alexa reminds us that today is National Pet Day! My students are writing what they have for pets on small post its and putting them on the white board. We have also done some brainstorming about what pets other people might have.  My extension question for this has been something along the lines of "Why would it not be a good idea to have an elephant for a pet?  What could happen if you had a tiger for a pet? Here is the white board with post its on it taken at about noon: Some of my students use augmentative communication devices.  Here is a short movie of a student using an ipad and clicker connect software to access the Alexa:
